Do You Promote Gold Or Shit?
by Spiderstyle

Do you promote gold or shit? Do you even know what you promote?

Have any of you people ever seen the inside of a paysite before? If you saw your share of membersites, you know exactly which direction I'm going to take this article.

I wonder how many of you actually know what you're promoting. Let's just forget about all the fancy tours and shit for a second and look beyond that.

We promise the surfer so many golden mountains with our smack talk and by using the sponsors fancy banners, but fact is, when they actually do sign up there is often little or less to be found of those promisses when they log in with their just bought memberships.

How do you think the surfer feels when he finds out he's been tricked into paying for a shithole?

I'm not naming any specific sponsors, but just stating in general that at least 60% of the sponsors out there have members area's that have less porn and lesser quality porn than can be found on a reasonable small TGP site. I'm not even talking about the big guys like The Hun, Shemp, WorldSex, GG or Richard's.

Todays surfer is getting more and more educated and aware of what the net has to offer. Joe Horny Surfer KNOWS what he can get for free, so he is most likely thinking that IF he signs up for a paysite the quality and quantity will be even better than what he could get for free. This is logic isn't it? You pay for something so the quality/quantity improves. At least, that's how I see it.

Why pay money for something that you can get better for free? Beats me, a normal healthy person wouldn't do such thing. But since the surfer is being kept in the dark and is being promissed golden mountains he will sure get the feeling that the "pay" pornsites are bigger and better, only to go white around his nose when he finds out he just bought himself a dead cat.

He will clearly state by himself that the porn that can be found without paying is simply of better quality. Go figure. You think this guy/girl will EVER buy a membership again? Ofcourse not. It would be VERY hard to convince this guy/girl again to go out and pull his/her wallet.

So, for this to improve you can go two ways. Either the free porn quality needs to dramaticly be adjusted below the standards most of the paysites are pushing, OR the paysites need to dramaticly improve the content they're showing their customers.

Once again I state that this does NOT go for all sponsors. There are actually a few sponsors out there who DO have huge membership area's and who DO make an effort to retain their customers.

So how can you know what you're selling? Well, the only way to know for certain is by taking a look inside the members area of the sites you are promoting. There are quite a few sponsors who will grant you a sneek-preview if you ask them. Many programs will give you a password if you are straight up about your intentions and ask nicely. You can base your choice if you want to be promoting the sponsor or not on what you've seen on the inside.

So... What if a sponsor denies you a sneak peek inside? You may not have send them any signups yet, but I reckon you have sites where you promote them one way or the other and thus you're driving traffic to their sites, which basicly tells them you are a webmaster as you claim to be. Ask yourself this question: "Am I willing to put effort in working with a company that takes no effort in working with me?". The answer is up to you, but personally I'd yell a big "NO!".

The knife really cuts on two sides here. On one hand you don't really want to promote specific sponsors because you know the surfer is being tricked and on the other hand you also know this sponsor will pay you your money and on time. And let's be honest, we're not doing this to just kill time. We're doing this to make a dime. Or lots of dimes actually. Nevertheless, there are sponsors out there who also pay on time and actually do have quality members area's. Focus on promoting those.

Next time you write a fancy text about a sponsor's paysite think by yourself how you would feel if you would buy a membership at that specific site. Would you feel good about it, go ahead, try to sell it. Do you feel as if you were tricked into a shithole, don't try to sell it to somebody else.

If you know a sponsor is promissing things on it's tours which can not be found on the inside you should simply stop promoting them. You're not only fucking the surfer over but also yourself in the long run. So adjusting your sales texts to the sponsors tour if you know the tour is lying makes you a liar in the surfers eyes as well.

And don't think the surfer doesn't know you. He/she might not know you in person, but the surfer will eventually recognize your style of work when he/she sees it. And if you fucked him/her over before, you will never ever make another sale of this person. Not even if you give it away for free. Simply because of the fact he/she does not trust you anymore.

So if you know a sponsor has a crappy members area it's not THE reason to stop using the recurring ref links, but just the more reason to stop promoting the sponsor at all and go looking for a sponsor who DOES live up to it's own tours.

I'm pretty sure a lot of webmasters don't care about what they're selling. It's kind of a touchy issue. But, I truely believe that in the long run webmasters are biting themselves in the ass if they know a sponsor is having a crappy membership area but still keep promoting them. It's common sense.

Untill now basicly any sponsor that I've asked for a peek has granted me access for at least an hour to browse around. Sometimes even before sending any traffic at all. A nicely written e-mail or ICQ message to a sponsor rep, explaining that I would like to promote their program (partnership programs) if I find their members area of good enough quality to promote, did the trick for me in most cases. Sometimes they do ask you for your most recent sites to see what kind of work you deliver though.

So don't be afraid to ask. Mind you, that I mostly work with sponsors on "partnership" basis, meaning I get a cut of the sell and they get a cut of the sell. They might react differently if you want to make money per signup.

KNOW WHO AND WHAT YOU ARE PROMOTING! Because if you fuck a surfer over 1 time, you've lost him/her forever.
